Hannah Blair

Hannah Blair, Co-Founder, VRcalm
I graduated last year in Computer Science recently finished a graduate scheme as a software developer at Deutsche Bank, now having gone on to work as a senior frontend developer at a startup, Defty.

I work full-time while running a healthtech startup in my free time. I cofounded vrcalm, which is a therapeutic Virtual Reality experience helping people with dementia by improving Quality of Life (www.vrcalm.co.uk), and won Sky's Women in Technology Scholarship, gaining funding and resources for vrcalm. We provide dementia sufferers, who are typically immobile in care homes, with relaxing, interactive green spaces in VR, empowering them with a sense of autonomy and independence, while helping to trigger memories. I hope that we will play a role in helping the vast number of patients with dementia in the UK. I also often volunteer within the tech community.

I regularly speak and volunteer at events held by Stemettes, a non-profit organisation based in London, organising coding workshops for young girls aged 5 to 18. I also volunteered for Code First:Girls as an assistant instructor in the web development course. I'm worked on the She++ London committee, organising talks & workshops to encourage more girls into technology. I frequently do public speaking & love blogging about my tech journey. I have spoken at various events on the topic of Virtual Reality for social impact, diversity in technology and healthtech. I’m also on the London Transformative Tech Committee, organising events for tech entrepreneurs in the mental and physical wellbeing space. (ttacademy.co).
